Russian invasion of Ukraine

Another day, another opportunity for Chinese patriots to choose to be on the wrong side of history.

On 24 February 2022, Vladmir Putin invaded Ukraine under the pretense of a 'denazification' campaign. People around the world derided the absurdness of this excuse, and wondered who in their right mind would be dumb enough to fall for it--after all, the President of Ukraine is the grandson of a Holocaust survivor. Turns out they gave Chinese patriots too much credit.

Patriots immediately drank the Kool-Aid, swarming onto Weibo and Bilibili to express their unwavering love of Putin the Great. On the first day of the invasion, the Communist Youth League posted the song "Katyusha" on the video-sharing site Bilibili, under the title "Sharing a song on Feb 24, 2022". The video's danmaku mostly consisted of the Chinese transiliteration of "Ура!", the Russian for "Huzzah!". The comment section predicted a swift victory for Putin, and some joked about taking Taiwan soon.
